If Taylor Swift's mother Andrea Swift had objected a little bit more, her beauty routine would not include the iconic look that she sports.
During a recent appearance on Today with Hoda and Jenna, celebrity makeup artist Gucci Westman revealed the history behind creating the iconic red lip of the millionaire pop diva.
Recalling the period in which she was getting Taylor ready for the April 2009 cover of Allure, Gucci said to hosts Jenna Bush Hager and Hoda Kotb, “I remember I really wanted to do a red lip on her because I hadn’t seen her in a red lip before.”
She added, “And her mom, if I’m allowed to say this, was like, ‘Well, Taylor doesn’t wear red.’ And I was like, ‘Please, can I just try?’... look at her now.”
Gucci, the owner of her own makeup line called Westman Atelier, is famous for collaborating with A-list celebrities such as Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, and Anne Hathaway.
In 2011, Taylor shared a clever trick to maintain a red lip in an interview with Allure.
“There are tricks I’ve learned from makeup artists on shoots. They put on the red lipstick, then blot it with a tissue, then they put powder over the tissue and sort of press it onto your lips. Then re-apply. It turns it into a stain that lasts much longer,” she said at the time.
