Imtiaz Ali revealed that initially, he was not sure about casting Diljit Dosanjh in his upcoming film Amar Singh Chamkila. However, the singer's strong performance changed his perception.
In conversation with Pinkvilla, the filmmaker shared that he didn't approach the Punjabi singer in the beginning as he thought that Diljit might "not be able to do it."
Imtiaz added, "...but it’s a little later that I did, the moment I spoke to him, it was just like a different chapter, and now it’s a sure shot thing, and now I really can’t imagine anybody else doing it."
The Jab We Met director also detailed Diljit's dedication while preparing to play the role of Chamkila.
He shared, "In a way, he has been preparing for Chamkila ever since he was born because he was born in those parts."
"Diljit is also from Malwa, from Punjab from a smaller place like he knows that language; he knows what it is to be an artist in Punjab and rise he knows about Chamkila much before I got to know," the filmmaker further shared.
It is pertinent to mention here that the upcoming film is a biopic based on the tragic murder of the renowned Punjabi singer Amar Singh Chamkila.
The movie is set to stream on Netflix from April 12.
