Philanthropist and writer Mackenzie Scott reportedly sold 65.3 million of her Amazon shares worth $10 Billion in 2023, People reported.
The amount makes up a quarter of what she owns in the company.
Following her 2019 divorce from Jeff Bezos, after 25 years of marriage, Scott ended up with about a 4% stake in Amazon worth $38.3 billion, placing her 22nd on the outlet’s ranking of the world’s 500 richest people and the richest woman in the world at the time.
Over the past five years, Scott has sold almost half of her shares in Amazon, bringing her net worth to $37.6 billion.
In 2019, Scott announced that she was joining the Giving Pledge — a list of billionaires who've pledged to donate half of their fortune — and has since donated more than $16.5 billion to a wide range of charities.
The philanthropist elaborated on her decision to take the pledge in a letter posted to the initiative's website, writing, "I do not doubt that tremendous value comes when people act quickly on the impulse to give. No drive has more positive ripple effects than the desire to be of service."
"My approach to philanthropy will continue to be thoughtful. It will take time, effort, and care. But I won't wait," she added. "And I will keep at it until the safe is empty."
After Scott split with Bezos in 2019, she married Dan Jewett in 2021. However, they got divorced a year later in 2023.
