Tense bathroom hour: Man gets trapped inside toilet on flight
The man, on his way from Mumbai to Bengaluru, was locked in the bathroom due to a broken lock
A malfunctioning lock turned a routine restroom break into a sky-high nightmare for a SpiceJet passenger, trapping him for a tense hour.
NDTV reported that the man, on his way from Mumbai to Bengaluru, was locked in the bathroom due to a broken lock.
However, the flight crew was unable to get him out. The man was only able to exit the lavatory once the plane landed in Bengaluru and airport technicians intervened.
In response, the private airline apologised for the unfortunate incident and announced that the passenger would get a full refund of the fare.
The flight crew members kept on telling the man to remain calm, “not to panic”, and also slid a note from under the door to him, as per passengers aboard the flight.
"Secure yourself. As soon as the main door is open engineer will come," the note said. "Do not panic."
In a statement, the airline said: "On 16 January, a passenger unfortunately got stuck inside the lavatory for about an hour on a SpiceJet flight operating from Mumbai to Bengaluru, while the aircraft was airborne due to a malfunction in the door lock.
"Throughout the journey, our crew provided assistance and guidance to the passenger. Upon arrival, an engineer opened the lavatory door, and the passenger received immediate medical support."
