Is Pakistani govt issuing Rs10,000 banknote?
Rumours of new note have sparked a debate over the fragile state of the local currency and its parity against world currencies
A picture of a Rs10,000 banknote has been circulating on social media, with netizens claiming that the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) is gearing up to launch a higher denomination banknote.
While the rumours sparked a debate over the fragile state of the local currency and its parity against world currencies, there are certain key points which prove that the claims are false.
The name of the governor mentioned on the Rs10,000 banknote picture being circulated on social media is Yaseen Anwar, who served as the 17th governor of the SBP from October 19, 2011 to January 31, 2014.
It should be noted that the name of the present SBP governor is mentioned on any new banknote released by the central bank.
An official from the SBP, through TheNews.com.pk, advised the general public not to pay heed to such rumours and check the authenticity of any news item related to banknotes on the SBP website and its social media accounts.
The Rs10,000 note's false news was also circulated in 2018.
