PESHAWAR: The Tour de Galiyat National Cycling Race would kick off tomorrow for which arrangements have already been finalised, officials said on Sunday.
The Tourism Corporation Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (TCKP) and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Cycling Association (KPCA) have jointly organised the event to attract domestic tourists to the scenic Galiyat region and also send a message of peace to the outer world. “Around 100 cyclists will participate in the race. The race will kick off from Sports Complex Islamabad at10am tomorrow (Tuesday) and reach Nathiagali in Galiyat via Havelian and Abbottabad cities on October 14,” said an official.
The concluding ceremony will be held at Nathiagali and Advisor to KP Chief Minister Amjad Afridi, Inter-Provincial Coordination Minister Riaz Hussain Pirzada and KP Secretary for Sports & Tourism Azam Khan will attend the event. Earlier, a meeting was held to finalise arrangements for the event.
Secretary Sports, Tourism, Culture, Archaeology, Museums and Youth Affairs Department Muhammad Azam Khan chaired while Additional Secretary Muhammad Tariq, Managing Director (TCKP) Mushtaq Ahmed Khan, Deputy Secretary Adil Safi, Director General Sports Mian Adil Iqbal, Advisor to TCKP on Tourism Dr Ali Jan, General Manager Tourist Information Centres Muhammad Ali Syed, Section Officer Sports Haseeb Khan and KP Cycling Association Secretary Taifur Zarin attended the meeting.
TCKP MD Mushtaq Ahmed Khan told the meeting that cyclists from across the country were taking part in the race which will give a positive message to the world about peace and tourism in KP province.
The event, he added, will also attract domestic and international tourists to the province. The official said the TCKP was working on various programmes, including identification of new tourist sites and their development along modern lines, to lure more tourists to the province.
