TIMERGARA: Unidentified gunmen shot dead a tehsil councillor belonging to the Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) here on Sunday, official sources said.
The sources said that the councillor, Muhammad Umar, was standing outside his house in Kotigram when unidentified motorcyclists sprayed him with bullets.
The assailants managed to escape while the body of the slain councillor was shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Timergara for autopsy. Police said the motive behind the killing of the councillor was an old enmity as in 2013 he was jailed in a murder case and later he was released due to lack of evidence. He was elected as the tehsil councillor from the Kotigram Union Council in the local government elections. He had also remained a tehsil nazim during the previous local government set up.
