BISHAM: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) emerged victorious in the local government elections by clinching 13 district seats and nine tehsil council seats in the Shangla district.
The Awami National Party (ANP) stood second in the polls by winning five district and one tehsil council seats. The ruling Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) just managed to win a district council seat and two tehsil council seats in the local government elections.
The total number of district and tehsil council seats in the district was 28 each. The Shangla district has two tehsils. The Alpuri tehsil has 19 union councils while Puran tehsil has nine union councils.
The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) won two district councils and four tehsil council seats, Awami Jamhuri Ittehad Pakistan (AJIP) won two district council seats and Jamaat-i-Islami won one tehsil council seat.
The Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl won a district and four tehsil council seats while five independents were also elected on the district council and six on tehsil council seats in the election.
The son of advisor to prime minister, Amir Muqam, Niaz Ahmad Khan won election on district councils seat from Bangalai Union Council and is a strong candidate for the slot of district council chairmanship.
Other PML-N candidates elected on district council seats included Sarfaraz Khan from Raniyal, Sabir Rehman from Alpuri, Intikhab Alam from Lalwanai, Sher Ali Khan from Botyal, Sherinzada from Shang, Hayat Khan from Mirah, Saaduddin from Sarkol, Jamshi Ahmand from Buner Wal, Ghaffar Ali from Uloch, Habibbullah from Choga, Afzal Khan from Ismailkhel and Jehan Ali from Musakhel. Sarfaraz Khan is a senior journalist and correspondent for The News.
The five ANP candidates won the district council seats. They included Shamsur Rahman, Attaullah Khan, Sadidur Rahman, Sher Ali and Zakirullah. Jan Ror Khan was the only ANP candidate elected on tehsil council seat.

elected on the district council seats while Ijaz Ahmad Kamal and Gul Ror Khan on the tehsil council seats, respectively. PPP’s Kamran Iqbal and Gharib Gul were elected on district council seats while Baseer Khan, Roshan Khan, Ajab Khan and Shahib Zada were elected on the tehsil council seats.
