DAGAR: As part of the ongoing cleanliness drive across the district, an awareness walk was arranged Thursday at the Pirbaba Bazaar to motivate the people to take active part in the cleanliness drive.
Buner Deputy Commission Zariful Maani led the walk. He was accompanied by representatives of the district government, officials of the district administration, leaders of political parties and elders of the locality.
The cleanliness drive was launched across the district last week. The district government and the administration joined hands for the purpose. They had support of all line departments and volunteers and financial assistance of Unicef and Sarhad Rural Support Programme (SRSP).
The campaign titled ‘clean and green Buner’ is aimed at providing a clean environment to the people of the district, said Zariful Maani, while talking on the occasion. He said that it was a matter of satisfaction that all the population of the district was taking active part in the cleanliness drive irrespective of their political affiliation, status, position and age.
The official said a special task force of volunteers had been formed in the name of Zwan Buner, which has been arranging positive activities in the district. He said that the solid wastes from all the public places and bazaars have been removed.
Four specific dumping points for solid waste have been made in different parts of the district where proper arrangements for waste disposal have been made. “Land in the district is already very costly. But with the support of the local people, they managed to rent space for dumping points,” he said.
The official said that before the cleanliness drive, the conducted a plantation drive which proved a complete success and hundreds of thousands of saplings were planted in different areas of the district. He said that during the cleanliness campaign anti-malaria and anti-dengue spray would also be carried out in all the drains, rivers and waste dumping sites to prevent spread of diseases.
