LAKKI MARWAT: The Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) disconnected power supply to dozens of tubewells and also seized transformers for non-payment of dues, an official said on Thursday.
Talking to reporters, executive engineer, Pesco, Sardar Muhammad Aslam Gandapur, said the irrigation tubewells were owned by influential people and that they had failed to clear dues despite repeated notices.
“Some of them had installed illegal transformers to run tubewells to irrigate fields,” he said and added that around 44 power transformers have been seized during the drive against power thieves and defaulters.
He asked the people to lend a helping hand towards power supply company to curb power theft and improve recoveries from defaulters. He also called upon the people to pay bills regularly as it would enable the company to improve power supply system.
