Martin Short, a well-known star, had his adopted daughter Katherine take her life, leaving her family and friends in shock. She was 42.
In a statement, the star's spokesman announced the tragic loss: "It is with profound grief that we confirm the passing of Katherine Hartley Short."
"The Short family is devastated by this loss and asks for privacy at this time. Katherine was beloved by all and will be remembered for the light and joy she brought into the world."
On Monday after 6 p.m., reports say the Los Angeles Police Department reached an emergency call to Short's daughter's home in the Hollywood Hills residence.
A report in TMZ states that a self-inflicted gunshot wound was the cause of Katherine's death.
It is worth noting that Short adopted her and her brothers Oliver and Henry with his wife Nancy Dolman, who passed away from ovarian cancer in 2010.
In 2006, Katherine earned her bachelor's from New York University. In addition, for her master's, she chose Southern California in 2010.
After education, she gained experience while working as a social worker. From interning at Public Counsel while training at West Los Angeles Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
In addition, the late 42 also served for four years at UCLA Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital and also at Camden Center.
Meanwhile, being the daughter of Short, Katherine kept a low profile. But she did sporadically attend public events. For example, her appearance at the afterparty for The Producers at the Hollywood Palladium, Bette Midler's New York Restoration Project Hulaween event, and the Vanity Fair Oscar Party in 2011.
