Maria Teresa Turrion Borrallo, who was taken on as Prince William and Kate Middleton's in 2014, has made the New Year Honours list and is given a Royal Victorian Medal (Silver) for her services to the couple.
The full list includes more than 1,157 people in politics, sport, the arts or community service to be awarded titles from Member, Commander or Officer of the Order of the British Empire to the highest honours of knighthoods and damehoods.
The New Year honours, which have been awarded since at least 1890, aim to recognise not just well-knownfigures but people who have contributed to national life through often unsung work over many years.
As soon as Maria Teresa's name surfaced online, anti-monarchists and Meghan Markle's supporters started criticizing William and Kate, questioning the criteria behind selection of the honorees.
"Oh look! The nanny they claim not to have is getting special honours. They're not even hiding the blatant cronyism," said an X account Zandi Sussex who openly supports the Duchess of Sussex on social media.
Many other social media accounts targeted the Prince and Princess of Wales after their nanny's name was announced as one of the recipients of the royal honor.
However, it's not uncommon for supporters of the opposing camp to target each other on social media.
Every time, Meghan and Harry launch a new project or make a public appearance, social media accounts loyal to William and Kate are observed mocking the couple for one reason or another.
