PESHAWAR: The 9th edition of the RMI Media Cricket League began with a colorful ceremony at the Peshawar Sports Complex. Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi was the chief guest and formally inaugurated the tournament by playing the first ball.
The event was attended by KP cabinet members - Muzzammil Aslam (Finance), Taj Muhammad Tarand (Sports), Meena Khan (Local Government), and Shafi Ullah Jan (Information) - along with RMI Chief Executive Officer Shafiqur Rehman, Director General Sports Tashfeen Haider, President Peshawar Press Club M. Riaz, Secretary Tayyab Usman Awan, senior journalists, and a large number of guests.
Chairman of the Sports Committee, Irfan Musazai, said that 20 teams from the Peshawar Press Club are participating in this year’s tournament. He termed the 20-day mega event a historic opportunity for the journalistic community.
Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi said that sports activities promote positivity, tolerance, and harmony in society. He added that the Media Cricket League provides an excellent platform to foster unity and healthy engagement among journalists.
“Media professionals work tirelessly in the race to deliver news; such sporting activities offer them a refreshing break,” he remarked. The chief minister emphasized that sports instill patience, discipline, and teamwork, and praised journalists for taking part in such constructive initiatives. RMI Chief Executive Officer Shafiqur Rehman said that RMI has always played an active role in promoting sports.
