Convocation arranged at women medical college

ABBOTTABAD: Women Medical and Dental College Abbottabad celebrated its 25th anniversary with a convocation ceremony where graduates of the 2023-2024 sessions were awarded degrees.

Khyber Medical University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Ziaul Haq was the chief guest.College Principal Prof Dr Salma Aslam Kundi congratulated the graduates, calling the day “a celebration of resilience, determination, and the collective efforts of teachers and families.”

She said that since its establishment, the college has produced nearly 2,300 graduates in medicine and dentistry who are now serving in the country and abroad.The chief guest said women, who constitute nearly half of the global population, can become powerful agents of economic growth, social progress, and public health advancement through education.

He stressed that empowering women through education is not only a matter of equality but also a fundamental prerequisite for national and global progress.Prof Dr Ziaul Haq lauded the college’s role in shaping future healthcare leaders. “Convocation is not just a celebration of academic accomplishment but a milestone marking the beginning of lifelong service. As you enter the noble professions of medicine and dentistry, uphold compassion, professionalism, and integrity,” he remarked.

The silver jubilee convocation drew more than 1,000 participants, including distinguished faculty, students, alumni, and proud families.The event also recognized outstanding academic performances. Gold, silver, and bronze medals were awarded to top achievers, while special awards were presented to students excelling in all four professional examinations.

The institution honored its best graduates over the years. The best graduates (MBBS) included: Zujaja Gul (2007-2011), Huma (2010-2014), Laraib Sadiqa (2013-2017, 2014-2018), Hajra Sajjad (2016-2020), Sulaima Shahid (2008-2012), Najma Rehman (2011-2015), Fatima Zafar (2017-2021), Nasira Nasr (2009-2013), Rida Batool (2012-2016), Hajra Bibi (2015-2019), Reem Noor (2018-2022), Nida Nawazish (2019-2023), and Zahra Sania (2020-2024).

The best graduates (BDS) included: Aiman Asif (2011-2014), Samreena Nisar (2013-2016, 2014-2017), Rafia Awais Qazi (2017-2020), Bakhtawar Mumtaz (2012-2015), Hooria Jehangir (2015-2018), Satiha Qazi (2018-2021), Sidra Naseer (2016-2019), Sana Ameen (2019-2022), Maheen Ajmal (2020-2023), and Tayyaba Khan (2021-2024).

Souvenirs and shields were distributed among the participants, while distinguished faculty members and staff were also honored for their exceptional contributions in academic and administrative affairs.College Director Dr Azhar Jadoon presented a commemorative shield to the chief guest.
