GLOF threat prompts evacuations in Chitral village

CHITRAL: The authorities in Lower Chitral have launched emergency evacuations in Madaklasht village amid fears of a possible Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF).

Officials said that relief camps have been set up at various safe locations and residents were being shifted to secure areas as a precautionary measure.Teams from Rescue 1122, Pakistan Army, Levies Police, Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) and Aga Khan Agency for Habitat (AKAH/AKAlert) are on the ground, assisting with evacuation and relief operations. District officials are also present in the field, directly monitoring the situation.

Meanwhile, the district administration has urged people to move to safe locations without delay.Through a communique, the administration also asked the people to stay away from rivers, streams, and flood-prone channels, urging them to contact the emergency control room if necessary.
