KOHAT: A large-scale crackdown has been launched across the Kohat region to combat drug trafficking in and around educational institutions after a growing public concern. The operation covers the districts of Kohat, Karak, Hangu, Orakzai and Kurram, with police intensifying efforts to curb drug distribution targeting students and youth.
Regional Police Officer (RPO), Kohat region, Abbas Majeed Khan Marwat briefed the media on the campaign, stating that a decisive and coordinated crackdown was underway in all districts of the region. He said the adoption of a zero-tolerance policy toward drug dealers, especially those operating near schools and colleges.
According to official data, during the month of July 2025, law enforcement recovered over 450 kilograms of narcotics, including 52.5 kg of ice and 354.7 kg of charas, 1.2 kg of heroin. The operations led to the registration of 116 drug cases and the arrest of more than 350 individuals involved in drug trafficking. Kohat district reported the highest seizure, with 41 kg of Ice and 112 kg of cannabis recovered. Notable operations were also conducted in Karak, Hangu, Orakzai, and Kurram.
The RPO instructed local police to increase surveillance around educational institutions and public areas and ensure no leniency is shown to those involved in the drug trade. He also appealed to the public to report suspicious activities to the police, reinforcing the importance of community cooperation in eradicating drugs from society.
