Swat flash floods: Grief in Rustam village over the death of two persons

MARDAN: The residents of the Nawan Killay in Rustam mourned the deaths of the two people who lost their lives in the Swat River flash floods tragedy.

Of the six people who drowned in the river, two bodies were recovered, three people were rescued, while 9-year-old Daniyal was still missing. Rozul Amin, a resident of Nawan Killay Rustam, had taken his nephews to Swat for a picnic.

The children insisted on going to the river bank, but the trip turned into a tragedy. The waves of the river engulfed everyone.According to locals and rescue officials, the bodies of two of the six people, who drowned in the incident, were recovered.

They were identified as 12-year-old Eshal and 35-year-old Farman. Three people were rescued, while the search for nine-year-old Daniyal continued on the second day with no success. On the other hand, the funeral prayers of the deceased were offered in Nawan Killay in Rustam, which was attended by relatives, local people and political and social figures.

Grief has gripped the village. The affected family and local people expressed grief and anger over the incident and criticized the government and rescue agencies. They said the tragedy could have been averted had the rescue teams arrived timely.
