Tom Cruise, after wrapping up his hit action franchise Mission: Impossible, led fans to revisit his filmography to fill the void of his absence on screen.
Beyond Mission: Impossible, his other stunt-heavy and action-packed films include Top Gun and its sequel, The Mummy, Edge of Tomorrow and Jack Reacher.
According to the Comicbook.com, while Top Gun: Maverick continues to dominate streaming charts, Cruise's 2012 film Jack Reacher is also making a name for itself on two major streaming platforms.
Although, neither films received major critical acclaima upon release, the original is now in Netflix’s global top 10, while the sequel is charting high on Paramount+.
The film follows a former military policeman who travels across US, solving crimes and uncovering corruption wherever he goes.
The movie's initial mixed reaction was partly due to Cruise’s physical mismatch with the 6’5 hero described in Child Lee’s novel. However, its brutal fight sequences and Cruise's performance is now winning over the fans.
Apart from the viewers who were craving for Cruise's performance, another actor deserves credit for the franchise resurgence.
Despite both films earning $380M at the box office, there wasn't enough material for a third instalment. Hence, Prime Video decided to develop TV series that would bring Child's story with more depth.
Alan Ritchson starred as lead role which delighted the fans of the novel as his physique was closer to the original character’s description.
With a fourth season already in works, the series has encouraged viewers to revisit the films, boosting their popularity.
Cruise co-starred with Rosamund Pike in Jack Reacher and with Cobie Smulders in the sequel. Meanwhile, Ritchson stars alongside Willa Fitzgerald.
