Prince William kicks off Brazil’s first day with special announcement

Prince William, who is a known Aston Villa fan, had an opportunity to show off his impressive footwork during his very exciting engagement on the first day of his Brazilian tour.

After the Prince of Wales was received a special honour in Rio De Janeiro, being presented the keys of the city by Mayor Paes at Sugarloaf Mountain, he headed to the iconic Maracana Stadium, which has seen some of the most famous moments in the sport.

Brazil is known for his obsession with football, hence it came has no surprise that William, who himself has a love for the sport, wanted to introduce a global initiative with football star Marcos Evangelista de Morais, known as Cafu.

The future king positively beamed as he found himself interacting with children while playing football in the iconic stadium.

William easily moved and manoeuvred the ball while holding a cup of beverage in his hand. And, at one point, he made a penalty kick and then hi-fived the children after what appeared to be a delightful match.

Kensington Palace shared key highlights from the engagement as it announced a global initiative as part of William’s Earthshot Prize: Generation Earthshot 2025.

It will be “uniting 75 young changemakers from Brazil and beyond for a four-day leadership programme” as they continue their fight against climate change and the impact it has on the planet.

“They’re building skills, exchanging ideas, and being inspired by sporting legends like Cafu – shaping the climate leaders of tomorrow,” the message from the Palace read. “It’s easy to feel optimistic with young people like these already stepping up for our planet!”
