Sydney Sweeney is proving her total commitment to her craft with her latest role as boxing legend Christy Martin in the upcoming biopic Christy.
Known for her breakout performances in Euphoria and Reality, Sweeney pushed herself both physically and emotionally to portray the first female boxer inducted into the Nevada Boxing Hall of Fame.
Her preparation involved gaining 30 pounds, intense strength training, and mastering kickboxing to capture Martin’s power and athleticism authentically.
The actress revealed that the film’s fight scenes were anything but staged. “So this is the crazy thing — we actually did connect [land punches] in the fights on the movie,” Sweeney told reporters.
Working with professional fighters and her stunt team, she insisted on full-contact realism. “I don’t want it to be the back of my head because it’s a stunt double,” she said. “When you see us hitting each other, we’re actually connecting. There’s bloody noises, I got a concussion, it was full force.”
Filming wrapped in November 2024, and Sweeney called the experience “one of the most emotional, transformative experiences of my life.”
She wrote on Instagram that working alongside Martin was “nothing short of surreal.” The actress emphasised that Christy is “a story of resilience, survival, and inner strength.”
Premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2025 and releasing in theaters on November 7, 2025, Christy has already sparked awards buzz.
Critics have praised Sweeney’s deeply immersive performance, noting that she doesn’t just play Christy Martin—she becomes her, delivering a raw and powerful portrayal of courage, pain, and triumph inside and outside the ring.
