CHARSADDA: Over 200 graduating students were awarded degrees and gold medals at the second convocation of the Bacha Khan University here on Thursday.
The ceremony was attended by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Higher Education Meena Khan, Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Zahid Hussain, Registrar Dr Ijaz Ahmad Khan, Controller of Examinations Dr Muhammad Ali, members of the Senate and Syndicate of the university and families of the students.
Speaking at the event, Minister for Higher Education Meena Khan and Vice Chancellor Dr Zahid Hussain emphasized the importance of education as an investment in the youth and the nation’s future. They noted that while students eagerly anticipate convocation day as a celebration of academic success, the real journey begins after graduation, with increased responsibilities toward society and the country. “The true purpose of education is to build a society based on merit, law, and justice. Our graduates must use their knowledge to serve the nation and contribute positively to the community,” said Dr Zahid Hussain.
The minister highlighted the provincial government’s commitment to improving higher education. He mentioned that several practical steps have been taken to enhance the quality of education across universities in the province. He said a five-year strategic plan has been introduced to identify and address challenges in higher education institutions, including increasing university funding.
He announced a fivefold increase in scholarships for university students and mentioned that education up to the intermediate level has been made free for underprivileged and orphaned children.
