Chilimjusht Festival begins today

CHITRAL: The annual three-day Chilimjusht Festival in the scenic Kalash valleys of Lower Chitral is set to begin today, with all arrangements finalised by local authorities.The vibrant cultural event will be celebrated simultaneously across the three Kalash valleys of Bamburet, Rumbur and Birir.

The Chitral district administration has implemented comprehensive security measures to ensure a safe and smooth experience keeping in view the anticipated influx of both domestic and international tourists. Additionally, the Kalash Valleys Development Authority (KVDA) has made special preparations at key locations including Bamburet Barrier and Rampur, focusing on road maintenance, cleanliness and infrastructure support.

The Chilimjusht Festival, also known as Joshi, marks the arrival of spring and is celebrated with traditional dances, music, and rituals unique to the indigenous Kalash community. On the final day, May 16, Kalash men, women, and children dressed in their colorful traditional attire will gather in Bamburet valley for the grand culmination of the festivities.

According to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Tourism Authority, a significant rise in tourist attendance is expected this year. Provincial ministers, members of the assembly, and senior tourism officials are also scheduled to attend the closing ceremony.

Minhas-ud-Din, director General of the KVDA, stated that all necessary arrangements have been completed in coordination with local authorities to ensure the smooth conduct of this important cultural and religious festival.
