PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has issued a notice to the provincial government and summoned records in response to a petition filed by Provincial Law Minister Aftab Alam seeking the quashing of First Information Reports (FIRs) registered against him.

The case was heard by a two-member bench comprising Justice Sahibzada Asadullah and Justice Aurangzeb. Advocate Alam Khan Adinzai appeared on behalf of the petitioner, Aftab Alam.

The counsel informed the court that the petitioner was a provincial minister and that nine FIRs were registered against him across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa after the violent protests of May 9 in 2023.

He argued that all these cases were filed by the caretaker government due to the petitioner’s affiliation with an opposition political party. The counsel contended that the cases were politically motivated and that his client was not involved in any acts of vandalism. He pointed out that the provincial government had not yet submitted the relevant records.

The court adjourned the hearing and directed the government to present the case records at the next hearing.
