Accused held under Peca Act for spreading fake news

NOWSHERA: The police have arrested an accused involved in spreading false and fabricated news on social media regarding a bomb blast at Kaka Sahib Shrine on the second day of Eidul Fitr.

The police have registered a case against accused Azam Khan, a resident of Mohallah Piran, Pirsabak under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes (Amendment) Act 2025 and launched an investigation.

A fake news report went viral on social media, claiming that a bomb blast had occurred at Ziarat Kaka Sahib, a popular pilgrimage site filled with devotees from across the region.This false report created an atmosphere of panic and fear. However, upon verification, authorities found no such incident had taken place.

District Police Officer Abdur Rashid assigned SDPO Cantonment Circle, Muqaddam Khan, to form a team and identify and arrest the individual responsible for spreading the misinformation.

The investigation team acted swiftly and issued a statement on social media that no such explosion had taken place on the saint’s mausoleum.Using modern investigative techniques, the team successfully traced the suspect, Azam Khan and was apprehended and a case was registered against him under the PECA Act 2025.
