PESHAWAR: An official on Wednesday said that youth can play a vital role as the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Right to Information Act (RTI) had empowered them to keep a vigil on the performance of public departments.

“By using RTI, you can get authentic information from public entities, which resultantly increase pressure on institutions to ensure merit in jobs, fairness in allocation of public funds, and equal disbursement of public resources,” said Syed Saadat Jahan, deputy director Communication, KP Information Commission (KPIC).

He was sharing his valuable insights on RTI to the selected youth from across the province under the ‘Youth Leadership Programme’ arranged by a non-governmental organisation CGPA here.

The official briefed the participants on the procedure of filing RTI pleas to public entities. He urged the youth to use RTI, especially in matters of public interest. “The more you file RTI requests, the more the pressure will increase on public office-holders to become sensitive to ensure merit and fairness in their respective domains,” Saadat Jahan added.
