MARDAN: The local police have registered a first information report against a person under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (Peca) for allegedly using harsh words and spreading propaganda against the Mardan Press Club (MPC) and its members.

Club president Muhammad Riaz Mayar and General Secretary Parveez Khan had submitted an application with the District Police Officer (DPO) Zahoor Babar Afridi along with evidence.Following the application, the City Police Station registered a case against him under section PPC 506,500,20 Peca and started an investigation.

It was stated in the application that a man identified as Zahid Khan had submitted an application for obtaining membership of the press club but the committee concerned had rejected his application on valid grounds.

Later, he approached the local court and then moved the Peshawar High Court (PHC) against the decision of the membership committee. The local court ruled that it had no jurisdiction to entertain the instant case and the plaintiff was asked to approach a proper forum for redressal of his grievances if any.

The plaintiff then moved the PHC, which also directed him to approach the forum concerned. The accused later allegedly unleashed false propaganda against the MPC and its members on social media.
