Crackdown launched on illegal taxis

PESHAWAR: In a crackdown against illegal transport, authorities on Monday seized 38 taxis operating without route permits and arrested their drivers during an operation in Hayatabad and along Ring Road.

The action, ordered by Commissioner Peshawar Division Riaz Khan Mahsud and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Secretary Transport Masood Younas, aimed to curb unauthorized transport and ease traffic congestion.

The operation was led by the Secretary of Regional Transport Authority Peshawar, Abrar Ahmad Wazir, with support from traffic police and the Peshawar Development Authority.The impounded vehicles were operating in violation of transport regulations, and legal proceedings have been initiated against the arrested drivers. The commissioner had earlier directed deputy commissioners across all five districts of the Peshawar Division to intensify action against unauthorized transport, adding the crackdown would continue daily to enforce transport laws and ensure smooth traffic flow.
