‘Improvement in cotton production indispensable for stability of textile industry’

MULTAN: Federal Secretary for National Food Security and Research Waseem Ajmal Chaudhry visited the Central Cotton Research Institute (CCRI) here on Thursday and reviewed the cotton research work, achievements and future cotton research projects in detail.

Federal Secretary Waseem Ajmal Chaudhry highlighted the key importance of cotton in the national economy and said that improvement in cotton production was indispensable for the stability of the country’s textile industry, exports and agricultural economy. He directed that modern production technologies and research projects should be expanded to increase the quality and yield of cotton.

He also stressed on making cotton research projects more effective. He emphasised the need for special measures to improve the quality of cotton and to acclimatise the farmers with modern production technology. The federal secretary further said that the government would take all possible steps for the promotion of cotton and in this regard a coordinated policy would be formulated in collaboration with research institutes, agricultural scientists and stakeholders. He assured that cotton research and development projects at the federal level would be further strengthened so that Pakistan could regain its identity as the best cotton producer.The federal secretary directed the agricultural scientists of CCRI Multan to develop innovative and fruitful research projects for the promotion of cotton production.
