Ring Road to have 4 underpasses

PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Gandapur has directed immediate measures to tackle the persistent traffic congestion in Peshawar, announcing the construction of underpasses at four key points on the Ring Road and the widening of five bottleneck locations on University Road.

Underpasses will be constructed at Kabootar Chowk (Dilzak Road), Jamil Chowk, Pishtakhra Chowk, and Customs Chowk.The University Road will see expansions at Board Bazaar, Town Chowk, Khyber Teaching Hospital, Iqra Chowk, and Tamuano Chowk, where traffic jams are a daily occurrence.

The initiative aims to provide long-term relief to commuters and improve traffic flow in the provincial capital.Peshawar Division Commissioner Riaz Khan Mahsud, accompanied by the deputy Commissioner, director general of Peshawar Development Authority, and other officials, visited the proposed sites to oversee planning and implementation.

He directed an extensive operation against encroachments on the University Road and called for the establishment of a permanent anti-encroachment squad to prevent future violations.The commissioner emphasized the importance of maintaining traffic flow and minimizing inconvenience to the public during the execution of these projects.

“A comprehensive plan, encompassing short-term, mid-term, and long-term measures, is being implemented to tackle Peshawar’s traffic challenges,” Riaz Mahsud stated, expressing confidence that timely actions would lead to sustainable improvements in the city’s traffic management.
