ALPURI: The Minerals Department in Shangla on Friday distributed cheques among the family members of the coalminers, who lost their lives while working in mines.
The cheques worth a total of Rs50 million were distributed among the widows, orphans and other family members of the deceased coalminers. Member Provincial Assembly Abdul Muneem Khan, who is chairman of the District Development Advisory Committee, was instrumental in helping the poor families receive the compensation amount. The cheques were given away at a ceremony where Mohammad Tahir of the Minerals Department and Deputy Commissioner Fawad Khan were also present.
The local elders and representatives of the local government also attended the ceremony.Speaking on the occasion, Mohammad Tahir asked the coalminers to get themselves registered with the directorate of mines and minerals so that the government could provide them assistance in case of any eventuality. He said that the government had established the office of the directorate of mines and minerals in Shangla to facilitate the coalminers.
