Minors rescued, shifted to drug rehab centre

PESHAWAR: Commissioner Peshawar Division, Riaz Khan Mehsud, has taken swift action against the growing menace of child drug addiction in Peshawar city and shifted three minor children, found sleeping on the footpath in Peshawar Saddar, and addicted to drugs, were shifted to rehabilitation centre.

The children were shifted to a rehabilitation center being run by the Social Welfare Department in Faqeerabad locality, following intervention from senior journalist Shamim Shahid, who identified the children and brought the issue to the authorities’ attention.

Commissioner Riaz Mahsud directed the district officer of the Social Welfare Department to investigate the matter and obtain information about the children’s parents and relatives. After receiving treatment, the children will be reunited with their families, and the reasons behind their drug addiction will be ascertained.
