Khana-e-Farhang marks Tree Plantation Day

PESHAWAR: A ceremony was arranged at the Cultural Centre of the Islamic Republic of Iran - Khana-e-Farhang— on Sunday to mark the National Tree Planting Day of the country.

A communication said Director General of the Cultural Centre of the Islamic Republic of Iran Dr Hossein Choghomi and Consul General Ali Banafshe Khah planted the saplings on the center’s lawn.

Speaking on occasion, Dr Hossein Choghomi said that National Tree Planting Day marked the beginning of the National Week of Natural Resources. he elaborated that the event was annually celebrated on the 15th day of Esfand, the last month on the Iranian calendar,” he elaborated.

“The day has been approved to be registered on the national calendar as “Environmental Protection Education Day”, he explained, adding tree planting was a rewarding and profitable investment.

Enlisting the multiple benefits of the trees, he said that among the top were providing more oxygen and dealing with pollutants. Dr Hossein Chaghomi said the Iranian government had always put stress on environmental protection as that was one of the essential requirements of development as noted in the country’s constitution.

He said in addition to planting an olive sapling, Iranian supreme leader Ayatollah Khamenei planted a Lawson cypress sapling and a Persian Ironwood sapling that was locally produced.
