PESHAWAR: A police officer was shot dead in another apparent target killing incident in Yakatoot on Wednesday.
Police officials said an Assistant Sub-Inspector of the Phandu Police Station Qaisar Ali Shah was returning home after performing duty when the armed men opened fire on him. The official died on the spot.
Locals said the attackers escaped on a motorbike. The funeral prayers for the slain cop were offered at the Malik Saad Shaheed Police Lines. Senior police and civilian officials attended the funeral. The slain cop was later laid to rest in the ancestral graveyard.
Meanwhile, the Badaber police arrested an alleged drug smuggler Aurangzeb in a wounded condition after an encounter. Police said they had recovered 10 kilograms of charas from the wounded smuggler.
