Two robbers who were reportedly fleeing after shooting a fruit vendor were gunned down by a team of the Gulshan-e-Iqbal police on Monday evening.
SSP East Jawed Jiskani told The News that the suspects had shot 30-year-old Ayaz, a fruit vendor located near the Gulshan bridge, when he refused to hand them over his day’s earnings.
An on-patrol police team heard the gunshots and chased the fleeing suspects. As they opened fire at the cops, the police retaliated and injured both men.
The robbers and Ayaz, the injured fruit vendor, were shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where the two suspects were pronounced dead on arrival, and Ayaz later succumbed to his injuries.
Two TT pistols, a motorcycle and other looted valuables were found in the robbers’ possession and, while a case had been registered, investigations were underway to ascertain their identities.
