Ex-graduates of KMC get life-time achievement awards
PESHAWAR: The Khyber Medical College (KMC) Peshawar has awarded life-time achievement awards to prominent former graduates of the college for their outstanding and pioneering role in establishing different services in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during their time.
Governor Sardar Mahtab Ahmad Khan gave lifetime achievement awards to them during annual convocation of the college. Prof Dr Raza Mohammad Khan was given lifetime achievement award for efforts to establish dermatology services in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He was called the pioneer of dermatology services in the province and then establishing a ward at the Khyber Teaching Hospital (KTH). After training several doctors in the field of dermatology, now serving in different parts of the province, Prof Dr Raza Mohamamd Khan a few years ago retired from his government job.
Prof Dr Akbar Khan Afridi was given the lifetime achievement award for his services in the field of community medicine. He had graduated from KMC in 1972. Prof Dr Mumtaz Ahmad Khan was awarded for outstanding achievements and imparting training in forensic medicine. He had graduated in 1967.
Prof Dr Attaullah Jan, who had graduated from King Edward Medical College in Lahore in 1975, was decorated with the KMC’s lifetime achievement award for his pioneering services in surgery in the province.
Prof Dr Riaz Naseem received the award for his excellent services in pharmacology.A senior physician, Prof Dr Sultan Mahmood, former graduate and principal of KMC and head of Medicine Department of the KTH, was awarded for his services in the field of medicine. During his tenure as principal of the KMC, he introduced lots of reforms like his young colleague Prof Dr Noorul Iman, in the college. He upgraded the laboratories and different departments brought numerous changes in the college syllabus.
Trainees of Prof Dr Sultan Mahmood are now stated to be serving as professors in medicine in different medical and teaching institutions of the country and abroad.
