Foreign policy
Since Independence, two contradictory strands have characterised our foreign policy template. First, the lingering sense of internal weakness and political instability that drove successive governments to seek outside support. And second, this support was conducted frequently and with little regard to its ramifications internally. The first miscalculated move eroded the nation’s self-respect and collective psyche and paved the way for bad governance, lack of scientific, impassioned analysis of domestic configurations, slump in the economy and criminal lack of the culture of self help.
Our foreign policy goals were not only poorly anticipated but also ineptly managed by the ruling junta, which was mostly seen pursuing short-term goals and self-preservation. Because these decisions inevitably met with total disaster the state had better craft a counter-narrative soon.
