Governor ensures rule of merit
LAHORE
PUNJAB Governor Rafique Rajwana has said that government is committed to implement rule of merit in the country and for that purpose, monitoring and feedback system will also be improved to ensure transparency in the recruitment process.
Talking to a delegation of Punjab Public Service Commission led by Chairman PPSC Col (R) Sajjad Akram, the governor said that violation of merit was in fact tantamount to snub the rights of deserving persons which eventually resulted in the destruction of institutions.
Rajwana also said that in addition to appoint eligible candidates on the slots, there was also a need to recruit people from remote areas of Punjab to ensure equal opportunities of progress to them.
Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) in its annual report while highlighting poor performance of candidates particularly in the subject of English in different competitive examinations it conducted in 2015 has expressed concerns vis-à-vis overall standard of education.
PPSC Chairman Lt-Gen (retd) Sajjad Akram presented its report, Annual Report—2015, to Punjab Governor Malik Rafique Rajwana on Tuesday.
The report also suggested and recommended the Punjab government to make up the shortage of PPSC members as against the sanctioned strength of 21 members, 16 were available while the commission had extremely huge workload. According to the report, because of shortage of
members and staff interviews were conducted in double
shifts and even on Saturdays. During 2015, the PPSC processed 426 requisitions from different departments with 12, 275 vacancies in these departments. Of these 10, 349 vacancies were filled after tests and interviews while 1,925 vacancies remained unfilled. One of posts was withheld due to qualification equivalence issue. As many as 791,216 applications were received by the commission for 12, 275 vacancies.
