Bollywood actress/filmmaker, Nandita Das, who was supposed to conduct a session with Sarmad Sultan Khoosat on the opening day of Karachi Literature Festival 2016 and speak at a panel discussion on the following day, will no longer be participarting on either of the days due to bad health.

The actress stated the reason through a Facebook post on Wednesday and made it clear that her denial has nothing to do with Anupam Kher’s visa-related controversy.

The post read, “I have been unwell since yesterday and unfortunately I am unable to go Karachi. I felt terrible letting down the organisers but it’s beyond my control. I had offered to do the sessions via Skype to make sure one can participate and the intent with which the Lit Fest is organised, is upheld.”

Her session, No Borders Between Performers, which was to feature one-on-one conversation with Sarmad Khoosat, was a much-awaited  session at the festival. It was aimed at bridging the gap between both the cinemas most likely to be followed by discussion on Sarmad’s film Manto, which met huge success locally as well as internationally.

Nandita has always been open to such platforms that provide artists and literary figures an opportunity to exchange ideas and opinions via thought-provoking discussions in a friendly manner. She attended the Khayaal Festival held in Lahore in November last year and was very inspired with the whole idea.

Nonetheless, the festival has a lot more on offer for the attendees as there is an array of activities going on including art, poetry, fiction, comedy, music and so on.
