A ‘naanbai’, contesting local body elections from UC-15, Rawalpindi, as an independent candidate for the seat of chairman, has announced to cut down prices of ‘roti’ and ‘naan’ if he wins.
Muhammad Shafiq Qureshi, working as a ‘tandoor wala’ for last 30 years, contesting local body elections from UC-15, Rawalpindi, told ‘The News’ that he belongs to a poor family and wants to do something worthwhile for the welfare of people, particularly for ‘naanbais’. He criticised the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) for sending them bills without providing gas. ‘Tandoor’ business is suffering a great loss due to absence of gas, particularly in winter season, he said. He also criticised ever-increasing school fee in private educational institutions.
He said, “I am not spending a lot of money during election campaign because I am a poor man. If I win the local body elections, I will cut down rates of ‘roti’ and ‘naan’ first of all in Rawalpindi and struggle to cut down school fee in private educational institutions.”
Shafiq said that he is proud of being a ‘tandoor wala’ as his forefathers were also ‘naanbais’. “I have also been associated with ‘tandoor’ business for last 30 years, he claimed.
Common people should come forward to participate in every election in the country, he suggested. He said "Some people are laughing at me that I am contesting the local body elections but it is my right."
