EU ambassador interacts with civil society members on Fata

PESHAWAR: A delegation of the European Union to Pakistan, led by Ambassador Jean-Francois Cautain, interacted with members of the civil society during a discussion on the situation and the future of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) here Friday.
The delegation was on a visit to Peshawar during which it met KP government officials and held a meeting with the management of the Sarhad Rural Support Programme (SRSP).
The session with members of the civil society was held at the offices of the SRSP. The SRSP’s board of directors chairperson Ms Munawar Humayun and members Mohammad Azam Khan and Mohammad Ikram and chief executive officer Masoodul Mulk were present on the occasion and took part in the discussion. Civil society activists from Fata including Ms Ali Begum, the first female Civil Service officer from the tribal areas actively participated in the interaction.
Ambassador Cautain said the EU delegation was meeting officials and people from different walks of life to have a better understanding of the situation in Fata and its development needs. The EU has approved $22 million for development work in Fata. Separately, Germany would provide $12 million for Fata.
