24th death anniversary of founder of Jang Mir Khalil-ur-Rahman observed

Condolence meetings held in different cities with great solemnity

KARACHI: The 24th death anniversary of Mir-e-Sahafat and the founder of modern Urdu journalism and Jang Group, Mir Khalil-ur-Rahman, was observed with great solemnity on Monday. Condolence meetings were held in different cities of the country, including Karachi, where Quran Khawani was also held.

Senior editorial and administrative members and workers of Jang in Karachi held Quran Khawani and offered Fateha at the grave of Mir Khalil-ur-Rahman. Haji Mohammad Ismail led the prayers on the occasion and laid a wreath on the grave.

Mir Khalil-ur-Rahman launched Jang from New Delhi in 1941. He was born on July 19, 1921 and passed away on January 25, 1992. He is considered to be the founder of modern Urdu journalism. Meanwhile, a Youm-e-Dua was held at the Conference Hall of the Mazar-e-Quaid-e-Azam under the auspices of the Mir Khalil-ur-Rahman Memorial Society.

The ceremony was attended by a large number of people of the city hailing from various walks of life. The ceremony was presided over by Mohammad Arif, Director of the mausoleum of the Quaid-e-Azam. 

Qari Hafiz Mohammad Aslam and Qari Shamsuddin presented recitation from the Holy Quran. They also arranged for the Quran Khawani held in the hall. Syeda Zainab, Atiya Rizvi, Naila Seemi and Sana Ali presented Hamd and Naat.

The Dean Secretary of Law of the Federal Urdu University, Dr Rana Khan Advocate, addressed the ceremony while it was hosted by the chairman of the Mir Khalil-ur-Rehman Society, Arshad Sabri.

Quran Khawani was also held at the Lahore office of Daily Jang in which a large number of employees of Jang, The News, Awaz and Waqt participated. Meanwhile, various political, social, journalist, religious and trade bodies paid rich tributes to Jang Group Founder Mir Khalilur Rahman for the services he rendered for journalism.

JUP Provincial President Mufti Muhammad Ibrahim Qadri, PPP leader Barrister Arsalan Islam Sheikh, Sukkur Small Traders President Haji Haroon Memon, Badar Rafiq Qureshi, Haji Javed Memon, Sukkur Chamber of Commerce and Industries President Aamir Ali Khan Ghouri, Irfan Samad, Malik Yaqoob, Israr Bhatti, Sukkur Parties Alliance Chairman Musharraf Mehmood Qadri, senior journalist Lala Asad Pathan, Sukkur Press Club President Jan Muhammad Mahar, Sukkur Union of Journalist President Javed Memon, Photographer Journalist Association President Syed Qaddafi Shah and people from different schools of thought paid a tribute to Mir Khalilur Rahman. They termed him an institution of journalism. In the meantime, Fateha Khawani was also held at the bureau office of Jang and Geo.
