LAHORE: After 117 years, the Punjab government has started work to bring the Border Military Police (BMP) and the Baloch Levies (BL) performing their duties in Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur under the control of the Punjab Police.
The Border Military Police the Baloch Levies are presently working under the Home Department, Punjab. Sources told daily Jang that the BMP and the BL are headed by a political assistant whose authority is equal to a deputy commissioner. He submits his reports to the Home Department, Punjab. The sources said that for this purpose, the Border Military Police Act 1904 will have to be amended. On the directions of the Punjab government, over 300 vacancies in the BMP and the BL will be filled in a few days.
