Husband, brother arrested as woman strangled for ‘honour’

A 24-year-old woman was strangled apparently in the name of honour allegedly by her husband and a brother in Manghopir’s Madina Colony on Tuesday.

Police said the woman was found murdered at an under construction house. Responding to information, police and rescuers reached the crime scene and took the casualty to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for an autopsy, where the deceased was identified as Zameera, wife of Ghulam Haider.

Police suspect that the woman was killed apparently in the name of honour. They have arrested the victim’s husband and a brother for questioning, and registered a case.

Watchman murdered

A watchman was found dead with his throat slit at a closed flour mill in District Korangi’s Zaman Town police limits. The corpse was transported to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for an autopsy. The deceased was identified as 35-year-old Akram, son of Sarwar. Police said unidentified person or persons slit the victim’s throat apparently over a personal enmity.

Shopkeeper wounded

A shopkeeper was said to be battling for his life in hospital after he was shot at his shop in Surjani Town. Two suspects riding a motorcycle pulled up outside a shop in Sector 7A, and one of them shot and injured the shopkeeper before the two fled. The casualty was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where he has been identified as 24-year-old Syed Jafar Hussain, son of Syed Nazar Hussain Zaidi. Police said the shopkeeper was shot twice and doctors termed his condition critical.

Police seized two empty shells of a 30bore pistol from the scene. They said the suspects were clad in shalwar kameez and had covered their faces with masks. They said the motive behind the incident was yet to be ascertained.
