JAMRUD: The government has introduced biometric system on the Pak-Afghan border at Torkham to check illegal cross-border movement. The biometric system has been introduced by the federal Interior Ministry. It may be added that a similar system was introduced by Pakistan at the Chaman border linking Balochistan with Afghanistan, but Afghan nationals had destroyed it as they resented measures hindering their cross-border movement. “The system will regulate the flow of people crossing the border and will help the law-enforcement agencies to track down terrorists,” said an official. The stakeholders, including Khyber Agency’s political administration, FIA and Nadra had installed 32 counters at the border, he added. Under the system, the official said, the Afghan nationals entering Pakistan would have to show evidence of a guarantor or sponsor. Those without required documents would not be allowed to enter Pakistan, he added. The Pakistanis entering Afghanistan would have to produce computerized national identity cards (CNICs) at the border.
