Pakistan Post delivers pension at doorstep
Rawalpindi:Director General Pakistan Post Muhammad Akhlaq Rana has said that the Postal Department has maintained the tradition of providing services in the crisis of coronavirus and playing a crucial role to reduce the risk of coronavirus, which is also appreciated and acknowledged by UN, says a press release.
Disbursement of pensions at the doorstep of 1.5 million military pensioners and family pensioners was a daunting task. The realisation of this dream is the top priority of the postal field teams. They have paid 350,000 pensioners in just six days. The employees will be rewarded for their performance and there will be good news soon. He was addressing members of the pension distribution teams and other operational duty personnel during a surprise visit to Rawalpindi GPO on Monday.
On this occasion, Postmaster General Northern (Punjab) Abdur Razzaq briefed the performance of the operational staff and said that in the Northern Punjab Circle, 79,000 pensioners have been paid in six days and the staff continued to reach out the pensioners. They also worked on Sunday with view to mitigate problems of old pensioners sacrificing their weekly off. Pensioners payments will be completed by April 2. We are also paying attention towards special arrangements for rush on Western Union and other international remittances payments, collection of utility bills and all other services being service provider department.
Director General appreciated the employees performing duties across the country and said that the Ministry and Postal Management under took this difficult task in the national interest. Our field staff worked complicatedly to protect the elderly, ill, disabled and family pensioners from the risk of coronavirus. Our teams are showing extraordinary enthusiasm and determination despite unfavorable conditions, disease risk and difficult areas. He said that the employees of other departments are currently at home due to fear of pandemic disease but by standing up for the national cause, we have re-established our worth as service provider department of the country and proved the importance of the department in the eyes of the nation. This will not only help to build trust in national institutions, but also help expand the scope of services.
He stressed upon the team members to use masks and gloves in accordance with the department’s guidelines to prevent from coronavirus. This will raise awareness of its importance in other people as well. Civil administration and law enforcement agencies are providing proper facilities to postal officials in lockdown and this cooperation will further improve. After the initiative’s success, the role of Pakistan Post can be further enhanced.
