National emergency declared to combat locust

ISLAMABAD: Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan said on Friday the Pakistan government had declared national emergency to combat locust.
In a tweet, she said the decision was taken in a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan. The meeting also approved National Action Plan to combat locust, she said, adding a high-level committee had been constituted for taking steps at the federal level.
She said the chairman of the committee would be secretary National Food Security Division, whereas chairman National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) would be its focal person.
