KARACHI: Altaf Ahmed who has been accused of firing at Wasim Akram’s car was sent to the prison on Monday.
The IO on Monday requested the court to extend physical remand but the court ordered to send the accused to the prison on judicial remand for 10 days.
The court was informed that one of the accused namely Haideruddin is absconding.
He pointed out that Amirur Rehman who was on protective bail claimed that a misunderstanding had taken place that caused the incident. The key accused had recognised Wasim Akram and so did not attack Akram and left, the IO submitted.
He further told the court that a car and a bullet cartridge had been recovered as case property.
The man who had opened fire claimed that since he was facing some cases pending with the court he possessed a licensed pistol for his protection but as he had come to know that he was going to confront with a man who had been former captain of Pakistan cricket team, he preferred to keep silent and leave.
Amir had approached additional district and sessions judge (East) Nadeem Ahmed Khan on August 10 who granted him bail before arrest till August 20.
He said that the vehicle that had hit Akram’s car was being driven by his driver and he (Rehman) was not aware of the fact the vehicle of former captain was hit by his driver.
He also claimed that it was his driver who had exchanged harsh words with Akram. Altaf was arrested on August 8. He told the investigators that he was not responsible for the incident. The shooting incident took place on August 5 after a minor accident when the shooter’s car hit Wasim’s Mercedes.
When he asked the driver to pull over, a heated discussion took place. The cricketer remained unhurt and the shooter fled the scene when a crowd began to gather.
