Contemporaries laud Firasat Rizvi’s contribution to poetry

Writers and contemporaries paid glowing tributes to poet Firasat Rizvi at an even held in his honour at the Ibraheem Jalees hall of the Karachi Press Club on Tuesday by its literary committee.
Speakers at the sitting, presided over by renowned poet Jazib Qureshi, while reviewing a collection of Haikus published in 2001 and a collection of Ghazals published recently called, Rubaiet, noted that Rizvi had brought to the fore a completely new and unique diction as part of expression in his poetry.
Federal secretary Dr Khawar Jameel, son of Dr Jameel Jalbi, the chief guest on the occasion, observed that Rizvi was among the few Urdu poets who always used striking formats of expression in Urdu poetry, such as “Haiku creation” and “Rubaie creation”, when other poets refrained from such vivid expressions. He his father, a renowned Urdu critic, had always admired Rizvi for his intelligence, brilliance and creativity, and termed his contribution to Urdu poetry one of the more significant in recent times.
The guest of honour, Mohsin-e-Azam Mohsin Maleehabadi, said he too had created more than 13,000 “Rubaieyat” and knew very well that it was hard to make them because they were so technical. Despite that, he said, Rizvi had succeeded in making his mark in this field of expression.
According to Mohsin, there were very few poets, including Josh Maleehabadi and Mehshar Badayuni, who had created perfect “Rubaieyat” and now Rizvi too had done a commendable job in his latest collection titled “Dard ki Qandeel”.
Another critic and scholar, Qaiser Najafi, also praised Rizvi for his innovative poetic thoughts, good diction and unique presentation of his recently-published collection. Another poet and critic, Ahsan Saleem, mentioned that Rizvi had published three collections of poetry titled “Kohar Mein Doobi Shaam” and “Kitaabe-e-Rafta” besides “Dard ki qandeel” and in all of them, he had distinguished himself.
Noted poet Ronaq Hayat also presented a poem paying rich tributes to Rizvi. A senior journalist and short story writer, Saleem A'azar, shared his experience of meeting and learning from Firasat Rizvi and his wife, Naseem Nazish, who is also a poetess.
Another speaker, Moin Assar Chishti, read a paper about how Rizvi was a man of integrity and kindness, who had also encouraged young poets.
A promising journalist and writer, Khurram Sohail, who conducted the proceedings, pointed out that he was the poet’s student and had witnessed firsthand how Rizvi was an extraordinary figure in literature. Firasat Rizvi in his vote of thanks recited his poetry which was acclaimed by all those present.
