‘Mother & Child Hospital to be equipped with all health facilities’
Rawalpindi: Federal Minister for Railway, Sheikh Rasheed here on Friday visited the site of Mother and Child Hospital to be built near Eidgah.
While inspecting the work, the minister expressed his satisfaction over the pace of work being carried out by the labourers. According to sources, Prime Minister Imran Khan is likely to lay the foundation stone of the hospital during this month.
The Punjab government has allocated Rs400 million for this project and funds have also been released to ensure early completion of the project. The health institution would be equipped with all modern facilities. Over 14 operation theatres would be established beside a hostel for working staff. In the year 2005 when work on the project was launched by the then government its cost of construction was estimated Rs3 billion. However, the cost in 2019 exceeded and now would be completed at a cost Rs5.25 billion. Work on this project remained shelved since 2005 due to change in governments and because of political affiliations.
However, after being elected once again from Rawalpindi, Sheikh Rasheed paid special emphasis on resuming work on this project and got the grant approved for it. He said that the Mother and Child Care Hospital would be the biggest health institutions and best in Rawalpindi District, possessing all kind of health facilities.
“Besides focusing our attention on other sectors like education are committed to improve health system in Rawalpindi city. Work on other health units would also be completed including renovation and improvements,” Sheikh Rasheed said adding the completion period of this mega health project is two years. However, work on it is being carried out on war footing and is likely to completed earlier than the scheduled time.
