The Green Train

The ‘Green Train’ project is just what we badly need. The highly modern train, with well furbished cabins and other facilities is to link Islamabad to Karachi through a 22-hour journey. This is an important addition to the transport infrastructure in our country and helps bring the railways back to the centre of attention as a provider of transport for a large group of people.
It is unfortunate trains in our country were allowed to become more and more rundown over the years and the railway department fall into decay. As the railways minister said the profitability of railways was being raised from year to year and more projects of the same kind would be launched. These are very badly needed. The train will also serve passengers from Lahore, Hyderabad and other places as it makes its stops to Karachi. Besides, we also need to think of intercity transport and the requirements of urban residents. To solve its massive traffic problem and serve its huge load of commuters, Karachi requires transport linking points in the city with each other. The projects promised in this sphere have so far not shown any significant progress. This needs to change so that the needs of people are met and the burden on the roads of our cities eased at the same time.
